This 1977 cj5 golden eagle represents the best of the classic "old school" cjs, and combines the rugged good looks of the traditional off-roader with daily driver friendliness that includes a v8 powerplant, comfortable seats, and an effective stereo system. Fortunately, this golden eagle is a limited edition that stands out with its color scheme. It's also a southern vehicle, so it's lived a gentle and charmed life in warm weather. The golden eagle graphics pop to all that gaze upon them, and tie into the jeep's distinctly american heritage. Inside, the jeep is basic, but that also means that it's virtually indestructible. Have some fun with the top and doors off and don't think twice about going off the beaten path, that's the name of the game. The seat covers are recent, so they fit well and are quite comfortable for a day of play, and the floor has been covered in fresh tan carpets that give it a surprisingly upscale vibe. There is also a modern am/fm/cd/ipod stereo system, which powers a pair of pioneer speakers perched on the tops of the rear fender wells. Power comes from amc's rugged and reliable 304 cubic inch v8, which makes this cj5 a bit of a hot rod on the road and unbeatable on the trail. A 2-barrel carburetor helps with the horsepower production, but for the most part it's the same trail-rated machinery that has been doing the job for decades. The suspension is fortified with a lift kit and off-road shocks all around, and a set of long-tube headers and side pipes give it just the right grumble and may even free up a few horsepower. That off-road-ready stance comes from a set of 32x11. 5-15 bfg all-terrain tires on flashy mickey thompson classic aluminum wheels. That isn't to say that this jeep doesn't look quite nice, because it does. This big, bad, black brute isn't subtle, but then again, not much about the world's most popular 4x4 needs to be low-key. With a look dating back to world war ii, it's one of the most enduring icons in motoring and the cj5's more compact shape makes it a favorite among true off-roading enthusiasts. This one is augmented with a few upgrades, including tubular side steps, new fender flares, and a heavy-duty tubular rear bumper. Other details are jeep mainstays, from the asymmetrical chrome side mirrors to the rear-mounted spare tire, offer a traditional look that'll never go out of style. Have fun in the mud, then take it home and hose it out, the heavy-duty seat materials and spray-in bedliner material lining the inner tub won't mind. Bestop bucket seats offer better support than the original low-back buckets, and there's a matching rear bench for a pair of friends. The engine is amc's torquey 304 cubic inch v8, which delivers more than entertaining performance in the lightweight cj5. The engine bay doesn't look like it's seen many off-road excursions and there's a ton of new stuff, including some chrome dress-up to make it sparkle. Thanks to a 2-barrel carb and long-tube headers, it runs superbly and delivers strong performance on or off road. Handsome aluminum wheels with big off-road radials look great on the sturdy cj, enhancing the burly attitude. So go out and have some fun in the sun.
