Rare 1955 imperial newport 2 door. One of only 3418 ever built, this vehicle is from myfather’s car collection. My father purchased the car in 1995 from a man in oakland ca. During his ownership herein california he kept the car garaged and drove it occasionally on club functions. The battery is new and the 331hemi engine starts right up. The car runs, drives and stops well. The master cylinder and power brake booster werereplaced a few years ago. The car comes with real wire wheels. The glass all looks good. The car has some pittingof the chrome, some surface rust in a few spots, some surface cracking of the leather interior, one tear in theseats (measuring about an inch long). Original color is cream and it is now painted white with the gold top. This car meets or slightly exceeds the #4 conditiondescription but is not a “#3 good” example, in my opinion. Brief history of the 1955 imperial: with understated elegance and a well-deserved reputation for excellentengineering, the imperial marked the pinnacle of the chrysler product line. Notably, 1955 marked the registrationof imperial as a separate marquee within the chrysler corporation, and the completely new-for-1955 models benefitedfrom the full stylistic influence of the renowned virgil exner. For 1955, imperials were available in two forms: the c-69 short wheelbase version known as the newport coupe orsedan, along with the c-70 long wheelbase sedan version named the crown imperial. Featuring excellent buildquality, the upscale imperial was priced from $4,483, providing a very attractive alternative to the contemporaryofferings from cadillac and lincoln.

Seller's comments and description: 1958 chrysler imperial crown 2 door hardtop; 392/345 hp hemi and torqueflight automatic push-button transmission. Power brakes,power steering,back up lights,windshield washer, quad headlights,this is one of the very few with factory a/c and other options, such as power windows,power door locks,heater,two tone paint,six way power seats,electric touch radio with rear speaker,solex tinted glass,locking gas cap,wide whitewall tires and more. Just too much to list. This is a very original and un-restored car with the exception of one re-paint in it's correct and original colors. The plush leather and brocade fabric interior is immaculate. This car is 1 of only 1,939 produced. Aprox, 635 of these had factory a/c. As per the chrysler imperial registry only 8 known to be in this condition or better. The rest were mostly crushed or donor cars used for restoration of the rare and expensive 1958 chrysler imperial convertibles, as not many parts were available or reproduced for these wonderful and rare iconic automobiles. The imperial is every bit an equal for the lincoln, and perhaps out-performs the blue oval on the road, offering superlative handling and a great deal of horsepower under the hood. Black looks better on engle's work than almost any other color and it makes the already gigantic imperial look about the size of a locomotive. The paint is at least a decade old and shows signs of age and use, but it doesn't seem to diminish the car's impact and we might consider just leaving it as-is and maybe giving it a buff to bring up the shine. All the original chrome and stainless trim is completely intact, from the split grille up front to the heavy door handles to the cool eagle medallion on the trunk that also doubles as the gas filler door. The interior is still big luxury, with a conservative look that fits the mid-60s perfectly. Aircraft-style switches mange the lights, wipers, and other controls and yes, that's a pushbutton torqueflite 3-speed automatic, still the coolest way to change gears ever invented. Power windows became standard equipment in 1964 and this car carries factory a/c, which remained an option. There's also an am/fm/cd stereo hidden in the glove box, which is a nice addition. The ultimate luxury is power, and the 413 cubic inch engine is a relative of the motors that powered chrysler products to wins on the drag strip. The engine bay is largely original, dominated by the big air cleaner and a/c compressor, but it's all there and in good working order. Recent work includes a new water pump and radiator, a full tune up, a rebuilt carburetor, and fresh belts and hoses, so it's ready for a road trip and lives up to its reputation. Underneath, the brakes have been rebuilt and there are new shocks all around, so that smooth torsion bar ride is 100% intact. There's a newer muffler out back that gives it a muted hum that's wholly appropriate, and factory wheels wear bespoke imperial hubcaps and 235/75/15 whitewall radials. A relatively rare car that gets a lot of attention, these imperials are criminally under-valued compared to period lincolns and cadillacs, making this a great opportunity.
